1. Connect all the cables
Most plugs are color-coded or will only fit in one place. Plug all power cords into a good (over $20) surge protector. If you don't have a surge protector it's okay to go ahead, just remember to unplug your system when you’re done and keep it unplugged it until you get one.
2. Turn on the power
Windows will find most devices and automatically install the drivers. If a device is a newer model Windows might ask you to insert a disk that you should have received with the printer.
3. Starting programs
Double click the icon. If you don't see it click the Start button, then select programs then look for it. When you find it click on it once.
4. How to shutdown
You must always follow the Shut Down procedure before turning off or restarting your system; if you don't, you run the risk of losing data. When ready to turn off your computer, click the Start button, then select Shut Down. This will open the Shut Down window. Select Shut Down. Windows will save your system data to the hard disk and automatically power off or display a message telling you that it's safe to turn off your computer. Some systems do not power off all the way. Instead they go into a sleep mode. They also signal the monitor and printer to go to sleep. This allows the entire system to be activated with just one switch.
